No one ever goes out and says, “Today, I think I will play football, and make sure that someone throws a pass into my mouth,” or, “Wednesday would be a great day for a car accident that will knock out half my teeth!” That, in essence, is why such occurrences are emergencies. Of course, no one plans to lose a filling either, but in the grand scheme of things, a lost filling is not as serious as trauma to the mouth. At Dr. William Schlesinger’s dentist office, even a lost filling is enough to warrant getting you in quickly, but if the football guy needs us, we will have to look after him first. Obviously, mouth trauma warrants even greater consideration. All the same, you can count on us to take care of you no matter what happens. Call us at 212-517-5940 when things go wrong. If something happens outside business hours, leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Dr. William Schlesinger and his staff love kids and understand that they should begin having regular dental checkups as early as possible – generally speaking, no later than the time they turn three years old. That is why we welcome children even under the age of two. The sooner a child begins seeing the dentist, the better the potential for lifelong dental health. Sometimes, young children are afraid of the dentist and that makes us sad. So we would like you to bring your child to see us at a very young age. We’ll take him or her on a tour of the office and show them that there is nothing to fear. And even better, if your child promises us that you will behave and not cry and make a big deal out of the visit to the dentist, you can come along too. As we have said, Dr. Schlesinger loves kids. Sometimes, he even tolerates parents!

Have you ever awakened in the morning, and had your bedmate say, “You know, you were grinding your teeth all night long”? If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Many people grind at night, and some even do it to the point where they damage the basic structure of their teeth. If this sounds like you, a night guard could be an ideal solution. It’s an appliance that fits over your teeth and prevents them from a meeting. Dr. Schlesinger can fit you with a night guard that is custom-designed for your mouth, so it will be comfortable. You will probably not even notice that you are wearing it and it will protect your teeth from subconscious night grinding. No one means to grind and no one wants to harm their teeth. A night guard stops you from doing what you don’t even know you’re doing and protects your teeth from erosion or breakage.
If you wake in the morning with pain in your jaw, you may have the temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD). Often, this is caused by clenching your jaw or grinding your teeth at night. Dr. Schlesinger can fit you with a mouth guard known as an NTI device that can stop the grinding and clenching.
