If you have chipped or broken teeth, you could consider dental crowns. Realistically, though, crowns are expensive and unless they are necessary to restore function, your insurer may not cover them. Fortunately, as long as no more than 1/3 of the tooth is missing, dental bonding could be a far less expensive alternative. Bonding is actually a restorative procedure as well as a cosmetic one and it is designed to restore your tooth to full appearance and function. It is not a complex procedure and for minor chipping, you may not even require local anesthetic. To do the bonding, your cosmetic dentist will rough up your tooth a bit, apply an acid etch to get rid of debris and open up little holes in the tooth to receive the bonding compound. Then the bonding material is applied, shaped, and cured using a special light. Finally, your tooth will be polished. Bonding is nearly as strong as a crown and no one will ever know the tooth was damaged.

If you have damaged or discolored teeth, but you’re on a tight budget, you may have given up hope of ever having a beautiful smile. You may even have looked at “cosmetic teeth” online or ordered them only to find out that they are hard to fit, break easily and don’t really look like your natural teeth. There is a solution. Snap-on smiles were invented by a cosmetic dentist who had the good sense to realize that not everyone can afford dental implants, or even porcelain veneers. Unlike cosmetic teeth, they are made of dental resin, not plastic and they’re custom-made using impressions of your own teeth, so they’ll fit perfectly. Unlike porcelain veneers, Snap-on smiles are not permanently fixed in your mouth. You will need to take them out at night. But you can eat and drink with them in – you can’t do that with cosmetic teeth. Snap-on smiles are the next best thing to permanent porcelain veneers!

Inlays and Onlays
Sometimes, dental damage is catastrophic. Realistically, if you have a blow to your mouth, you are probably going to end up with severely damaged or missing teeth and a need for significant restoration in the form of implants, crowns or dentures. However, moderate to mild damage can be corrected with inlays and onlays, which are restorations made from composite resin or porcelain and colored to match the surrounding teeth. Inlays and onlays can be used to replace old metal fillings or to correct decay or chipping. Inlays are used to correct damage on the cusps of your teeth and onlays are used to treat damage to several cusps. A cosmetic can clean up the damaged area, take impressions of your teeth and then send them to a lab to have the inlays or onlays made. Then, he will cement them in place, restoring appearance and functionality to your teeth. All you need to do is brush and floss regularly and your inlays and onlays will last a long time.

Porcelain veneers can correct a variety of imperfections, including gapped teeth, misalignment, discoloration and a gummy smile. They are simply thin porcelain shells that fit over your natural teeth. Traditional porcelain veneers require your dentist to scrape away a bit of your tooth enamel. Lumineers® are thinner and can often be installed with no preparation.
If your teeth are yellowed or dull, your smile can be restored using whitening treatments. Dr. Schlesinger recommends the KoR™ whitening system, which can restore even the oldest, most discolored teeth to dazzling whiteness. Treatment begins in the office and continues at home. Zoom!® whitening treatments also deliver very good results, and if you have sensitive teeth, Opalescence could be the perfect solution for you.
A smile makeover can consist of just one treatment or several – whatever it takes to get your smile to the point where you are satisfied. A cosmetic dentist can offer all the treatments you need to perfect your smile – whitening treatments, porcelain veneers, crowns, implants, inlays and onlays, bonding and more. If you are dissatisfied with your smile, Dr. Schlesinger will be pleased to meet with you to discuss appropriate treatments.
